4) Armsman who have achieved proficiency in all 5 of the Academy weapon styles may wear a surcoat or tabard with the colors and insignia of their choice (within historical constraints). The Tintagel mark will be worn as a patch or a belt emblem. The only exception to this is at war. On the battlefield all instructors and armsmen will wear a red and gold tabard.

Armsmen Duties

1) Maintain your equipment.

2) Have a Code of Chivalry: As you study the various chivalric philosophies, you should choose one that best suits your own moral code. Be able to explain it clearly any time you are asked. Do not be surprised if you find that it is changing as you learn more.

3) Lead or Follow: At all times, you should know who the leader is. If there is a situation in which there is a paucity of authority, then you should not hesitate to take responsibility. If there is an authority, then you should support that person to the best of your ability.

4) Have a motto: Once you have passed Avalon authorization or SCA authorization, you must have a shield device of an authentic style and create a motto that best suits your philosophy of chivalry. Paint your motto on the inside of your shield or in a similarly noticeable place.

5) Mutual Aid and Support: We are going to be a team. Be ready to assist your fellow armsmen when needed.

6) Be an Example: We are going to set the standard for chivalric behaviour. Both on and off the field, we will at all times strive to behave nobly in word and deed.

7) Exercise and maintain your physical condition: A good fighter needs to get into shape. Keep up with your assigned at home exercises and try to improve every month.
