November 25th Battle of the Nations - Team Japan Practice

Dear Students and Friends of Tintagel:

On sunday, the the members of Japan's Battle of the Nations team will be practicing from 3:30 to 6:30.
Please note that hours have been moved up from the previous schedule.

Fighters using the regular rules will be able to practice only in that format from 2:00 to 3:30. After that,
they will still have chances to practice, either between the Battle of the Nations practice bouts or
as assistants to the Battle of the Nations practice. For the practice,
we will  have various games designed to prepare our skills. In some of them,
even fighters not interested in BoN will be able to participate and have fun.

Because of the lack of armour, we will not be using steel weapon simulators on Sunday.

I hope you will attend and support Japan's first ever team!

that all the following swords, up to the modern olimpic fencing ones,
are modifications of the original rapier. Apparently simple, the
rapier fencing is based on balance and adaptability, and great
importance is given to footwork. The lesson(s), based on Capoferro's

2012 March News

March 25th Pandybat tournament and Bar fight

Noble Friends of Tintagel,

Castle Tintagel is pleased to announce that we are hosting a Pandybat tournament and Bar fight.
Our theme for that day is "taverns". It is supposed to be a very humorous event. There are several activities planned:

1) A weird weapons tournament. Using rattan and foam, fighters bring items to be used as weapons.
They must be constructed to look like non-weapons (for example, a fish, or a bar mug, or a skull),
but they must pass Tintagel weapon safety regulations.
There are two prizes: most interesting weapon and one for the winner fo the fighting tournament.

2) A bar fight. This is a grand royal battle. All of the fighters are in one room in armour at the same time.
The room will look like a bar or tavern. The weird weapons (pandybats) will be around the room.
Fighters begin with only a dagger. At the signal, the battle begins.
The winner is the last fighter standing. there will be a prize.

September 10-11th Nobi Beach Event in Yokosuka!

Recently, I received word that the conditions at the Nobi Bed and Breakfast
are a litte different than expected. As this is the case, I am making a few
changes to the plan for the weekend. Please check the new description below:

~~Nobi Battle and Barbecue~~
★9/10&11(Sat,Sun) Nobi Beach Event in Yokosuka
Accommodation:Nobi Beach Club Bed and Breakfast
On September 10 and 11, we will travel to the isolated Nobi Beach Club Bed
and Breakfast to enjoy two days of lighthearted medieval fun, with fighting,
fireside singing, and food!

Directions by train:
Take the KEIKYU line from Shinagawa to Keikyu Kurihama (the limited express
takes 59 minutes and costs 760 yen). Make sure you get on one of the first
four carriages as the back part of the train sometimes breaks off in a
different direction.

Note: Unless you live in the Kamakura area, the JR will take longer and cost
more.

From Keikyu Kurihama station go left out of the only exit and down the
stairs where, just to your right, you will find the #2 bus stand. Take
either the #3 BUS bound for Kokuritsu Kurihama Byoen and get off at the last
stop (190 yen) or the #8 BUS bound for Nobi Kaigan and get off at Gairaimon
Iriguchi (220 yen).
Note: The #8 bus also stops at JR Kurihama station.

Directions by car:
From western Tokyo, take the Daisan Keihin via the Yokohama Shindo to the
Yokohama Yokosuka road. Take Exit 9 for Sahara. If you don't have a car
navigation system, turn left from the Sahara exit and follow the signs for
Kurihama Station and then the Ferry Port. At the ferry port intersection go
straight, through the tunnel and take the first right AFTER the sharp right
bend in the road and up the hill. Turn right at the no entry sign for the
hospital and you'll find the Nobi B&B about 400 meters further along on the
right.

Then all the fighters who have lost the first round will be paired off again
until there is only one survivor. In the end, there will be two fighters
remaining: The fighter who never died will be awarded 5 points, the fighter
who only lost once will be awarded 4 points.
2) Fashion: Each fighter will be awarded 1-3 points based on the
authenticity of their dress.
